How the Iowa pieces work
- Transfer tax: Iowa charges $0.80 for every $500 of the sale price after the first $500, usually paid by the seller. On a $250,000 sale that's $399.20.
- Property taxes are paid in arrears. Each tax year runs July 1 to June 30, and its bill is paid the following September and March. At closing, sellers usually credit the buyer for taxes that have built up but haven't been paid yet.
- Abstract of title: Iowa sellers typically pay to update the abstract, and the buyer's attorney reviews it. That's part of the closing-fee estimate above.
Want the real number?
The biggest unknown here is the sale price. I'll build your Game Plan from the actual sales around your home, with this net sheet built in. When you're ready to sell, I'd like to be the one who sells it.
